The City of Canterbury’s swimmers produced a fantastic showing at the 2006 national age group championship held at Sheffield. The swimmers representing the club all returned with their heads held high having achieved excellent swims
Holly Ralfe swam in eight events and produced a series of great performances.The twelve year old brought home three silver national medals for the 100m freestyle, 100m backstrokes and 200m backstroke. In the 100m freestyle she also broke the age group, junior and senior club record for 100m Freestyle with a time of 1.00.40 seconds. To confirm her all-round ability Holy finish 9th overall in the BAGCAT points championship for the 12 yr old females. Karl Botha (15) produced a series of storming swims, each a pb. The best of which was an amazing 57.30 seconds to take 3rd place in the 100m fly, an age group, junior and senior club record. Karl was swimming in a double age band but was the fastest 15 yr old in the country for the swim. He also achieved this in the 200 Fly in which he was 5th in the 15/16yr age band, again an age group, junior and senior Club record.
Luke Smith (14) swam strongly in several events and in his two finals came 6th in the 400m IM and 7 th in the 100m fly. Combined with other excellent swims Luke attained 8th position in BAGCAT points championship for the 14yr old boys. Caroline Robinson (11) and Josh Maley (17) both reached their first finals in the 100m breaststroke. In her final Caroline came 10th and in his Josh finished 9th. Nick Boylen reached the finals of the 100m backstroke and breaststroke in the multidisability category, coming 5th and 10th respectively. In addition other swimmers who swam for Canterbury were Kevin Chui, Aleks Krunic, Michael Stanley, Emma Harris, Helen Robinson, Catherine Lough and Sophie Tomlin.
These achievements represent a year or more worth of training for the swimmers.
