Guildford Open Meet May 2006

In the last Gala before the South East Regional Bagcat championships 19 more swimmers made the journey to Guilford for the May 2006 licensed meet. Although he only had three swims Michael Stanley 14, was the highlight, with 2 first places in the 400 IM and 200m free in pb and NQT times, and one fourth place in the 100m free. Another winner, again in an NQT and a club record was Karl Botha 15, in the 100m backstroke.

Erin Walsh 9, the youngest swimmer in the Canterbury squad, was one of the busiest swimmers, racing in nine events. Erin ended the gala with three 2nd places. These came in the 50 and 200m breaststroke, and also the 200m backstroke. There were also 3 third placings in the 200m freestyle and in the 100m and 200m IM.. Finally Erin was placed 5th in her three other events, the 50m butterfly, freestyle and backstroke. Out of the nine races Erin swam 4 pb’s.

Another busy swimmer was Aleks Krunic 14, who also swam in nine events, and gained 4 pb’s. Aleks was placed 2nd in the 200m backstroke and 400m freestyle, with a 4th place in the 400m IM nad two 5th placings in the 200 IM and freestyle. Sophie Tomlin 14 recorded more 2nd placings in the 400 IM and the 400m freestyle. Sophie was also placed 5th in the 100m butterfly. Louise Smith 14, fresh from her successful South East Regional youth championships swam a new club record with a 2nd place in the 200m IM. Louise was also 3rd in the 50m freestyle, 4th in the 100m freestyle and 5th in the 100m and 200m backstroke races. Josh Maley swimming just one event was 2nd in the 100m backstrok
Laurence Hill 15, swimming consistently well grabbed a 3rd in the 50m breaststroke, as well as 4th place in the 50m and 200m backstroke. Out of 7 swims Loz swam 5 pb’s. Emma Harris 15, swam 2 pbs in 2 races and came in 3rd place in the 200m freestyle and 6th in the 100m freestyle. Ben Walsh 12, seeing his sister grabbing a number of top six placings decided to get in on the act with a 4th place in the 50m breaststroke and a 5th in the 200m breaststoke. Ben also swam 3 pb’s out of 4 events. Daniell Ingleston 12, was placed 4th in the 200m butterfly. She was also placed 5th in the 100m fly and 6th in the 200m backstroke.

There was a fourth place and pb for Elizabeth Wells 12, in the 100m breaststroke, as well a pb in the 100m butterfly. Ben Watson 13 swam into 5th place in the 50m backstroke and 6th place in the 200m backstroke, both in pb times. Catherine Lough 14, and Emma Drabble 15, both gained 5th place in freestyle events, Catherine in the 100m and Emma in the 50m race. Ryan Powell, swam 4 pb’s, one of which gained hime a 6th place in the 400m freestyle. Finally there were 2 pb’s for Katie French in the 100m freestyle and breaststroke.
